Carl Vernon Rauschenberg, Jr., died on November 2, 2009, of complications from gall bladder surgery at Emory University Hospital. He was born January 12, 1943, to Iris Kerlin Rauschenberg (deceased) and Carl Vernon Rauschenberg, Sr. Carl was a native Atlantan who grew up in the Druid Hills area and attended Druid Hills High School. He retired from practicing real estate law after 32 years and moved to Big Canoe in 2007. Carl thought Big Canoe was paradise and enjoyed hiking in the mountains and becoming part of the community. He graduated from Georgia State University, Woodrow Wilson College of Law, and John Marshall School of Law. He served 6 years in the U. S. Naval Air Reserves. He was a former member of Decatur First United Methodist Church where he was active as an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 175, the Kononia Sunday School class, the administrative board, and the finance committee. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Verna Mobley Rauschenberg, his two sons, Cliff Rauschenberg and his wife, Joanne, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Rob Rauschenberg and his wife, Catherine, of New York, NY, his father, a brother, David Glenn Rauschenberg of Dalton, GA, and two grandchildren, Abigail and Thomas Rauschenberg of Virginia Beach, Va. A memorial service will be held at the Big Canoe Chapel on Friday, November 6, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a contribution may be sent to Boy Scout Troop 175,% Mr. Jim Paulino, 231 Upland Road, Decatur, GA, 30030.
