Carlos Agra, Sr. of Stone Mountain, Georgia
passed peacefully in his bed, as was his
earnest wish, on Saturday, April 8, 2017. He
was ninety-three years of age. Son of Pedro Agra Garcia
and Ofelia Mendoza Napoles, he was born
February 24, 1924 in Camaguey, Cuba.
A life-long advocate for human rights, he
left his beloved homeland as a refugee in 1964 to join his
wife's family in Decatur, Georgia.
Throughout a long and storied life he was
accountant, taxi driver, steel worker, gardener, and philosopher.
A beloved patriarch, his faith, wisdom, humor, and generosity made him
equally loved and respected by his friends.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four
years, Esther Ponz Agra; son, Carlos Agra, Jr. and his
wife Cora Agra; daughter, Tersi Bendiburg;
daughter, Carmen Agra McCutcheon and her
husband, John McCutcheon; eleven grandchildren,
Benjamin Bendiburg, Jordan Bendiburg, Katherine Deedy Robison,
Erin Deedy Whatley, Lauren Deedy Noonan, William McCutcheon, Peter McCutcheon, Carlos Agra III, Luis Agra, Fernando Agra, Roldan Agra; great-grandchildren, Ruby Bell Robison, Samuel Carlos Whatley, Grace Carmen Whatley, Brady Wise McCutcheon, Adam Agra, Cory Agra, Jessica Schiappa, Carlos Agra IV, Melissa Agra, Lauren Agra, Alex Agra, Sara West, Ashley Flowers and Tabitha Agra ; and 6 great-great grandchildren
The family will receive friends at Turner & Sons Funeral Home
on Wednesday evening, April 12, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Memorial
Service will be held April 13, 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at
Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
