Carlton "Skip" Cooper, Jr.

July 23, 1948 — January 17, 2010

Mr. Carlton “Skip” Cooper, age 61, of Snellville, died January 17, 2010.  Born in Washington DC, Mr. Cooper lived for a number of years in Maryland before moving to the Atlanta area, graduating from Northside High School in 1967.  He was a former member and deacon at both The Baptist Tabernacle in Atlanta and Clarkston Baptist Church.  He had been a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Snellville for 15 years years.  Mr. Cooper served his country in the U. S. Army as a combat infantryman during the war in Vietnam, where he earned the Purple Heart.  He was a pressman for many years, being employed last with ProGraphics Communications, where he worked for 18 years.  He was preceded in death by his father, Carlton Cooper, Sr., and is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sherri Mann Cooper; daughter and son-in-law, Alison and James Young of Dacula; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Heather Cooper of Sandy Springs; son, Jason Cooper of Snellville; mother, Kate Cooper of Loganville; brother, Mark Cooper of Cedar Rapids IA; grandchildren, Jameson, Avery, Jaylen, Macallan, Alyssa and Kaylee.  The funeral service for Mr. Cooper will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons.  Dr. Jeff Gongwer and Rev. Larry Mize will officiate.  Interment with military honors will be at 2:30 P.M. at Georgia National Cemetery.  For those desiring, a contribution in memory of Skip Cooper may be made to Longleaf Hospice, 2712 Lawrenceville Hwy. Decatur, GA  30033.  The family will receive friends 5 – 8 P.M. Tuesday at A. S. Turner and Sons.
