Carol Ann Hagood, 85 of Decatur
Carol Hagood (Chase), born March 26, 1938, in Hanover, New Hampshire, died at her home in Decatur, Georgia, September 10, 2023. She is survived by a brother, John Chase, a sister, Judy Costa, and her six children David (Beth) Malcolm, Cathy (Phil) McCaskey, Karen (Jeff) Fedderly, Susan (Janis) Bilmanis, Douglas (Bobbie) Malcolm, and Sandy (Cynthia Osborn) Malcolm. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren (Alexander, Stephen, Delilah, Allan, Jennifer, Paul, Luke, Brhianna, Kristina, Kevin, Emilie, Calvin, and Grace), and 7 great-grandchildren (Casey, Tyler, Danny, James, Maisie, Vincent, and Poppy). She was pre-deceased by her grandson, Ryan.
Carol was born in New Hampshire, but after the untimely death of her father, she returned with her family to Massachusetts. She grew up on Oxford Street in Fairhaven. After graduating from Fairhaven High School in 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Paul Malcolm, in 1957. They moved to the Washington, DC, area, settling in Arlington, and then Alexandria, Virginia, where they had their six children. The family moved to St. Mary's County, Maryland, where she raised her family and worked as a bookkeeper at Kopel's Marina.
Carol was first and foremost a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished family above all other things. She had the uncanny ability to have birthday and anniversary cards arrive on the exact date of each special occasion. She attended every high school and college graduation of all her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bridge and built many friendships through her numerous bridge groups. She was an avid collector of Lladro, and her homes were decorated with carvings, paintings, and other collectibles of Canadian geese, ducks, and birds. She was happiest when her home was filled with the chaos of visiting family, and her absence will be sorely felt especially at family gatherings. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society. She will be laid to rest at a later date this Fall in the family plot at the Pleasant Street Cemetery in Raynham, Massachusetts near her hometown of Fairhaven.
