Carol Burroughs Lowe

Carol Burroughs Lowe, of Atlanta, GA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2023, after a brief illness. She was 83 years of age. Born April 10, 1940 in Athens, GA to Isabel and Ralph Burroughs, she moved to Atlanta's West End neighborhood in 1946. She attended Lee Street Elementary School. The family moved to Tucker during her school age years, where she graduated in 1958 from Clarkston High School. She excelled in school and also in sports, particularly basketball. Upon graduation, she worked in the insurance business. She found her true calling as a medical transcriptionist, working at several psychiatric hospitals including Brawners, Psychiatric Institute of Atlanta, and Peachford Behavioral Health. She retired in 2010.

On November 9, 1963, she married William Ray Lowe on his 32nd birthday. It was by far his very best birthday gift. They were married for 44 years until his passing in May, 2008.

Carol was an excellent cook, especially when it came to chicken and dumplings and brunswick stew. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, always doting on her children and grand children who lovingly referred to her as "Mimi". She loved dogs and cats, especially schnauzers and poodles. There were many four-legged, furry friends she loved and adored throughout the years.

She is survived by her brother David (Laurie) of Lawrenceville; daughters Cindy Balte and Betsy Oglesby (Todd) of Decatur, GA; son, Bill of Chamblee; Granddaughters, Grace, Sara, and Julia Balte; and grandsons, McRae and Ross Oglesby. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday December 3, 2023, at A S Turner Funeral Home. There will be a visitation an hour prior to the service. The Interment will be private.
