Mrs. Carol D. Stauffer, 78, died October 1?, 2004. Carol was born December 7, 1925, in Vienna, Austria. She attended Swarthmore College and was a graduate of the University of Chicago. Her life was centered around her family and friends. Carol was known for her exceptional hospitality. From being a home away from home to many nieces and nephews, to welcoming her children's college roommates, to hosting numerous foreign visitors through a Rotary exchange program, she invited everyone into her home and heart. She was well known for her lively conversation, her storytelling talents, and her sense of humor, which never failed her, Carol also had many creative interests. She enjoyed trying new crafts, whether it was making prom dresses for her daughters, making stained glass windows, creating crewel pictures, or putting together clothespin doll Christmas ornaments. Her favorite place was her family's lake house in northern Michigan on Elk Lake where she spent every summer. Her recent years were spent enjoying the activities and lives of her four children and nine grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Christy, Laurie and Wendy; son, Rick; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur on Saturday, October 23rd at 3 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, 3860 North Long Lake Rd., Suite D, Traverse City, MI, 49684, which helps preserve land near Elk Lake. A. S.
