Carol Irene Dallas

December 30, 1945 — October 26, 2012

Carol Moulder Dallas of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012. She was 66 when she died from complications arising from ovarian cancer. Carol was born on December 30, 1945 in Albany, Georgia to Glen H. Moulder, Sr., and Irene Durham Moulder. She received her Bachelor of Music in 1968 and her Master of Music in 1970, both from Florida State University. Carol began her professional career at the First United Methodist Church in Thomaston, Georgia, as organist and Choir Master. It was while working there that she met and married her husband, Robert, in 1973, and had her first child, Aaron, in 1977. Following that, she worked as Choir Director and organist at Morrow Methodist Church in Morrow, Georgia. It was there that she had her second child, Clare, in 1980. She and her family then moved to Decatur where she worked as Choir Director and Organist at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Since 2001, Carol was the organist at Shallowford Presbyterian Church. Since 1990 she has been a member of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. In 2011 she had the honor of being elected to the Board of Directors of this beloved organization. Many of her favorite times were spent enjoying the recitals and the personal relationships this group provided. While working in these churches, she also taught music at Gordon Junior College in Barnesville, Georgia, from 1975-1980, and she taught individual piano lessons at home and with the Suzuki Piano School from 1980-1990. She was a music and movement teacher at Arbor Montessori School in Atlanta from 1985-1990 and, for the past five years, a preschool teacher at Haygood Elementary School and The Day School in Atlanta. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her deep and abiding friendships, and her fierce loyalty to friends and family. Carol truly embodied the essence of non-judgment and she maintained an open heart policy in her friendships and with her life. Many close friends will remark that spiritual and philosophical conversations with Carol have brought about significant meaning and impactful change in their lives. She had an eloquent skill in turning simple conversations into momentous exchanges. Not only could she conceive a gourmet meal at a moment's notice, her creativity spilled over into her teaching style and social endeavors. She was an inspiration to those who knew her love of and passion for music, and her zest for fun living and enjoying nature. The family's fondest memories are of the many spontaneous trips they took to spend time together in the outdoors. Carol's son and daughter feel blessed to have been as close as two siblings can be to their parents, and feel that their close relationship and friendship with their mother has had a profound positive impact on their lives. Carol and her husband shared a lifelong commitment that inspired and encouraged those who knew them. Carol is survived by her husband of 39 years, Robert E. Dallas, III; her son, Aaron; her daughter, Clare; her brother, Stuart W. Moulder (all of Atlanta, GA); and her brother Glen H. Moulder (of Houston, TX). A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 1 at 3:00pm at Shallowford Presbyterian Church, 2375 Shallowford Road, Atlanta, GA 30345. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
