Carol Hallman Smith was born Carol Elizabeth Hallman on Dec. 17, 1962 at Emory Hospital. Her parents, Bernard Lingo and Christine Connell Hallman loved her very much. She was the baby of the family and kind of a natural star so her older brother and sister Richard and Laura had to get used to that.
The Hallman kids all grew up on a dead end street where children and dogs and cats were allowed to run free and Carol learned very early that she loved all animals. There was even a neighbor with a pony. As an adult, Carol always had at least one pet in the house, Buckwheat, Joe, Bird, Murphy, Chelsea and currently Lily.
In addition to her immediate family she loved spending time in different parts of North Carolina with her Uncle Gene and Aunt Jewell and her Uncle Perry and Aunt Betty and their kids and pets.
Carol attended Emory at Oxford and Emory University where she made many lifelong friends and more importantly met the love of her life Chris Smith. Chris didn’t get around to asking her out until her third year in college. Their first date was a Pat Benatar concert. Making up for lost time they got married the very next year in 1984. They would have celebrated their 36 th wedding anniversary later this year!
Carol was very comfortable with computers and technology and worked with different databases throughout her career. She and Chris founded a couple of small companies and she also worked for Ceridian and First Atlanta before taking a job with Emory healthcare in the late 1990s where she worked until her illness sidelined her in 2019.
In addition to her love of friends, pets and Chris, Carol loved to travel. She and Chris visited Europe, Mexico, Peru, Jamaica and the British Virgin Islands along with trips all over the U.S. She was fond of both flat and hilly Georgia, spending lots of time on Lake Nottely near Blairsville as well as the kaolin country of Sandersville with friends Carol and Newsom Cummings and other Oxford friends for life.
