Caroline Johnson Benefield, age 86, of Decatur, died Thursday, May 8th, 2014. Caroline was
born on May 7, 1928, in Atlanta. She graduated from Girls High in 1946, and married Judge Joseph Johnson in1951. They resided in Decatur with their children, Ellen and Susan. She was an active member of Decatur First Baptist Church since 1952 and was part of the Sunday school class, The Gleaners for many years. After Joe passed away in 1991, Caroline remarried CE Gene Benefield who passed away in 2011. She is survived by her two daughters, Ellen Johnson McBrayer, Susan Johnson Settle and son-in-law, Mike Settle; surviving grandsons, James J McBrayer, wife Tami and daughter, Lina Caroline, Brody McBrayer and Adam K McBrayer; wife, Mandy and son, Joseph Edward McBrayer; several cousins; and her dear friend of 80 years, Mrs. Fay Prince. Funeral services will be held at A. S. Turner and Sons in Decatur on Saturday May 10th at 2 pm, with burial at Floral Hills in Tucker. Those desiring may send contributions to the Alzheimer's Association Georgia, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346. The family will be receiving family and friends from 5 to 7pm Friday May 9th at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
