Carolyn Janis Andrews Barber passed away peacefully January 12, 2018. She was a native of East Atlanta and a 1943 graduate of Girls High. During WWII she worked at Conley Depot (Ft. Gillem). After the war, she met and married her husband, Bill of 66 years. Throughout the years she worked for both Atlanta and Dekalb School Systems. Always involved in the life of her children, Carolyn volunteered at the DeKalb Memorial Athletic Association. Mt. Zion UMC was her home for her deep Christian faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; son, Mike; as well as her parents and siblings.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Tommy Barber (Linda), Pat Barber (Wendy), daughter, Carol Hammett (Greg). Grandchildren Scott Barber (Emily), Amy LaRue (Craig), Jack Barber, Billy Barber, Michael Hammett and Kaylee Beale. Step grandchildren Preston Carlson, Grant Carlson (Sarah), Megan Lock and Allie Lock. Great grandchildren Cecilia Barber, Eleanor Barber, Owen Barber, Valerie Beale, Harrison Carlson, Emma Carlson, Penny Beaulieu; and many more nieces, nephews, and loving friends. Carolyn loved cooking and spending time with family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 - 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 15 at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16, with Reverend Clair Yoder officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park.
