Carolyn Smith Cates

Mrs. Carolyn S. Cates, 86, a longtime resident of Atlanta, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015. She was born November 5, 1928 in Haralson GA to the late Alsie & Rosa Todd Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Brasher Lee Cates Jr. and her siblings, Hoyt Smith, Roger Smith and Janelle Cowan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 5-7 pm and Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 12-2 pm, followed by a chapel service at 2 p.m. at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N Decatur Rd Decatur GA. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker GA. Condolences may be made online at www.asturner.com. Carolyn is survived by her sons, Doug, David and Brian; daughters-in-law, Pam, Kathy and Kim; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Massengale of Senoia; cousin, Paul Moore of Haralson; and many nieces, nephews and great friends. Carolyn was a true Southern lady, avid bridge player and a professional shopper, but her greatest attribute was her family, her love of them and making sure they stayed connected.
