Carrie Laura Smith Perloff was born on October 12th, 1923 in Acworth, Georgia, and was the youngest girl of eighteen children, all born at home to Carrie Vaughn Smith and James Paul Smith. Carrie grew up in Acworth, and played basketball in high school. She married Sam Perloff, and they had three children - Jayne, Susan, and Alan. For many years, Carrie and her family lived in Decatur, later moving to Tucker. As a widow, many years later, Carrie moved to Park Springs, an assisted living community, in Stone Mountain, Georgia. After that, she moved to Eatonton, Georgia, to another assisted living community. Her final residence was The Glen, an assisted living community in Greensboro, Georgia.
Before she retired from CNS Bank, after many years, Carrie enjoyed working retail at Rich’s and Penny’s department stores. She also did volunteer work at Dekalb Medical for twenty years, and was an olympic volunteer in 1996, when the games were played in Atlanta.
Carrie was a member of Decatur First United Methodist Church for many years. She was very active, most of her life, enjoying golf, bridge, sewing, and extensive world travel, especially enjoying cruises. She collected souvenir spoons from many destinations, and had a large collection hanging in the kitchen in each of her residences. Her favorite cruise was to Alaska, which she described as the prettiest place she had ever seen. She was an avid Georgia Bulldogs football fan, and she and Sam had season tickets for many years.
Carrie had many friends over her lifetime and especially enjoyed beach trips, sometimes for a month at a time, with close friends, who rented condos in the Panama City beach area. She also arranged many beach trips over the years with her children and grandchildren.
Carrie loved the outdoors and worked in her yard for much of her younger years, planting flowers, trees, and shrubs. Carrie was most known for her great love for her family. She was married to Sam for 48 years. She is survived by her youngest brother, Joe Edward Smith. She is also survived by her three children - Jayne Lindsay, Keith Lindsay (son-in-law), Susan Fowler, and Alan Perloff. She is survived by ten grandchildren, who called her Nana - Lisa Smith Brooks, Jennifer Smith, Leah Lindsay Stevens, Shep Lindsay, Courtney Horner Kenna, Benjamin Horner, Mallory Perloff Cunningham, Nikki Perloff Johnson, Brody Perloff, Bailee Perloff. She is survived by eleven great grandchildren - Kayla Brooks Chatfield, Kelin Brooks, Ryan Hellams, Avery Hellams, Dawson Lindsay, Ellison Kenna, Meyers Kenna, Elizabeth Kenna, Emma Horner, Lillian Horner, Knox Cunningham. She is survived by two great great grandchildren - Audrey Chatfield and Cameron Chatfield.
