Catherine Ivey Jones

June 27, 1922 — October 17, 2005

Catherine Ivey Jones, formerly of Harrisburg, PA, died Monday, October 17, 2005. She was a native of Atlanta, graduating from Girls High of Atlanta. She attended Georgia Evening College which later became Georgia State University. In the 1940?s, she worked for Bell Aircraft where she was Miss Bell Bomber of World War II and was extremely proud of serving as one of the early flight Stewardesses for Eastern Airlines.  She was also very active at Georgia Tech where she was named Miss Technique. She and her husband, Richard E. Jones, were married at Glenn Memorial Methodist Church at Emory and celebrated 53 years together prior to his death in 2000. Mrs. Jones was well known for years for her extraordinary needlework which was exhibited nationwide. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jones of Decatur, Cathy Chewning and her husband, Dr. Richard D. Chewning of Griffin; brother, Turner W. Ivey of Houston, TX; and grandchildren, Mary Catherine Chewning, Elizabeth Anne Chewning and Richard D. Chewning, II. Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 21st, 12:30 p.m. at Crest Lawn Memorial Park. Dr. David Naglee and Rev. Woody Spackman will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons
