Catherine Bernadette ("Katie", "Kitty") McNally of Decatur, GA, passed away peacefully the day after her 87th birthday on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Born and raised in Parkstown, Glenmore, Ireland. She became a nurse and cared for patients in Waterford, Ireland and London, England. She immigrated to the United States arriving in New York via passenger ship on Columbus Day, 1952. She worked as a nurse at St. James Hospital, Newark, New Jersey and became a US Citizen. She met Patrick Thomas McNally of Hawthorne, New Jersey at a relative's wedding and they were married on August 17, 1957. She ended her nursing career to raise and nurture her growing family of four children. She retired in 1992 and moved to Little River, SC, where she enjoyed playing golf and walks along the beach. She moved to Decatur, GA in 2010 to be near family in the Atlanta area. She enjoyed singing and gardening. She loved traveling to Colorado, Ireland, Europe, Hawaii, Australia, and New Zealand. She was a gentle soul and truly Our Lord's faithful servant on earth.
She was predeceased by her parents: Patrick and Bridget Aylward; and sisters: Bridget Aylward, Peggy Aylward, and Josephine Aylward.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Patrick Thomas McNally; her children Mark of Apex, NC and his wife Dinah, John of Sandy Springs, GA, Gregory of Ramsey, NJ and his wife Penny, and Patricia Spaulding of Avondale Estates, GA and her husband Matthew. She is also survived by her siblings in Ireland and England: Stella Scully, Nellie Gill, Mary Aylward, Teresa Fitzgerald, and John Aylward. She will be dearly missed by her 11 grandchildren: Emily McNally, Dylan McNally, Brenna McNally, John McNally, Joe McNally, Erin McNally, Peter McNally, Alice Spaulding, Sam Spaulding, Luke Spaulding, and Franklin Spaulding.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, March 12, from 3pm to 5pm at the A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, http://www.asturner.com, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 636 W. Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur, GA. Interment of ashes will occur at a later date at Our Lady of Sorrows Mausoleum, Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Catherine's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
