Cecil L. Strickland, age 88, died on Thursday, February 3, 2011. He was born in LaGrange, Ga., Troup County, on July 29, 1922 to the late Milton Strickland, Sr. and Blonde Hubbard Strickland. He graduated from LaGrange High School and attended one year at North Georgia College before he joined the Army Air Corps, and served in WWII for over three years. He was a radar operator in the anti aircraft artillery with the 8th Air Force. After a short time in Scotland and England, he was then stationed in France, 90 days after D-Day. He ended up with four Bronze stars and numerous others including one for the Battle of the Bulge. Altogether, he was in 12 different countries. For a time after the war, he served as an MP in Europe then back to Ft. Bragg where he was honorably discharged. Cecil studied Business Administration, graduated from the University of Georgia and was a member of ATO fraternity. He went on to get an LLB degree from Atlanta Law School. He married Emily Harris in December, 1949 and had one daughter, Lana Strickland Sachsenmaier, married to Karl Sachsenmaier, and a granddaughter, Jessica Sachsenmaier. He began his career in the insurance business then eventually went into real estate where he was a broker and owner of Strickland Realty Company in Tucker, Ga. He was known for his generosity, his love for his family, and love for his country. He also loved his work and continued to work until the day he died.
He is survived by his wife, Emily, married 61 years, his daughter Lana and granddaughter, Jessica, brothers; Milton Strickland, LaGrange, Jack Strickland and his wife Carlene, Woodbridge, Va., sisters; Elizabeth Wurst, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Eleanor Adams, Venice, Fl., and Joyce Durvan, of LaGrange, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and a celebration of Cecil's life will be Friday morning, February 11th at eleven o'clock at A. S. Turner & Sons with Dr. Frank Crumpler officiating. Interment services will be held Monday, February 14th at one-thirty in the afternoon at Georgia National Cemetery.
