Surrounded by family and friends, Cecil W. Hester, Jr. passed away Monday evening, September 19, 2005, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. A native of Atlanta, Cecil grew up in the Grant Park and the Sherwood Forest areas and was a 1950 graduate of Georgia Military Academy. After serving in the U. S. Army, he attended the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Mu Chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity. He was graduated with a BBA in Finance in 1957 and married Carolyn Hendricks Hester in 1959. He was an independent insurance agent for 48 years. He also served as a District Vice-President of the University of Georgia Alumni Society. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church for 38 years. Mr. Hester was a loving and faithful husband, father and friend. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his son, Cecil W. Hester, III (Chip); his daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Jay Huffines, all of Atlanta; his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Curt Young of Martinez, GA. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Joseph M. Collins, Sr. (Joyce) of Sautee, GA; and three grandchildren, John W. U. Huffines, Jr., Candler Young and Catie Young; and an aunt, Celia Hester Farley Hudnall of Columbus, GA. In addition, he is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22nd at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Decatur, GA. Officiating will be the Reverend David Hancock and Dr. H. Dan Rice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Grove UMC, 1722 Oak Grove Rd., Decatur, GA 30033 or Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, Atlanta, GA 30319. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
