Chantal Gadd Trauner, age 76, died at DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 surrounded by her family.
Born March 24, 1938 in San Francisco, California, she relocated to Georgia in 1980. Chantal truly loved life. She was passionate about her family, her faith, art and the environment.
Nothing was more important to Chantal than her family including her children, Jonathan Trauner, Stephanie Trauner and Jennifer Thomas, her grandchildren, Megan Trauner, Dylan Sanders, Amelia Thomas, Adele Thomas, Elizabeth Bockman and Tomas Bockman, and her great-grandson, Sean Sanders. Chantal also has five surviving brothers and sisters, Pierre Gadd, Tom Gadd, Paul Gadd, Michele Taube and Denise Gadd.
Chantal was a devoted friend, with a generous heart and spirit. She loved her church, St. John the Wonderworker, where she was committed to ministry, service and her beloved church community.
Chantal was an accomplished and prolific artist and was always creating something. She had just completed and held a showing of a new body of work - vibrant, colorful, abstract paintings. She lead a monthly art critique group and encouraged everyone around her to follow their own creative muse.
Chantal always felt a strong connection to the earth and had the greenest of green thumbs. Her garden, in full spring and summer flower, was wildly exuberant and undisciplined with every pot full to overflowing. She loved growing food and felt a great responsibility to be a good steward of God's creation.
Chantal had great energy and curiosity; she never stopped reaching out, reading, learning, growing, giving and loving. She will be sorely missed by those who had the privilege to know her.
A visitation for family and friends of Chantal will be held from 3 to 6 p.m, Saturday, January 3, at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, at St. John the Wonderworker in Atlanta. Burial will be held afterwards at Honey Creek Woodlands.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome and should be made to the Loaves and Fishes Ministry of Atlanta, where Chantal volunteered weekly to help cook for and feed the homeless. Please visit www.saintjohnwonderworker.org/why-loaves-fishes to donate.
