Charlee Collins Lambert, born in Madison County Florida in 1922, touched the hearts of many people in her extraordinary 92 years of life. Charlee died Wednesday, November 4th of natural causes just a few weeks short of turning 93 years old.
Charlee attended Florida State College for Women before marrying Ralph Clinton Lambert. After raising six children, she returned to college to get her degree at the age of 62. She then started her career as a playwright and director. After receiving a Federal Grant for her "Educational Plays for Living", her production company produced her plays in the public school systems, churches and colleges throughout the country for two decades.
Other accomplishments include: co-founder of Georgia's Council on Elderly Abuse and, also, managed its Victim Assistance program through the Atlanta Legal Aid Society; 2003 Honoree Award of the Rosalie Wolf Memorial Elderly Abuse Prevention Award, an award established by the World Health Organization and other organizations; and on the Advisory Board of the Fuqua Center for Late-Life Depression.
Aging gracefully was her motto. She advocated that "aging has its advantages…you are able to do the things in life that you want to do and not what someone else wants you to do".
Charlee loved to dance and have fun. She had a weekly bridge group that she played with even in the last few days of her life. She also proudly spent the last few months of her life teaching a class on "Telling Your Story" at the Dekalb Senior Center. Not only was she a good storyteller, but it was a true passion she wanted to share with everyone.
Angels in her life were many, but some include Judy Winograd, Bette Walton, Lorraine Lombardi, Barbara Levitas, her driver "Sir William" and her housemates Ken Lienberger, Chuck Beck and Jason Baumgartner.
Charlee touched the hearts and lives of so many people. She is survived by her six children: Dawn Lambert Hines and husband Bill Hines, Laura Lambert McDonald, Jo Ann Powell and husband Tom Powell, Clint Lambert and wife Candace Lambert, Charlane Lambert Hemphill and husband Dave Hemphill, Christine Lambert Himeno and husband Tomonari Himeno. She is also survived by 15 Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-great Grandchildren.
Charlee will be cremated at A.S. Turner Funeral Home.
