Charlene Ruth Honekamp

Ruth Honekamp, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 surrounded by family at her home in Decatur, GA. She was born December 25, 1926 in Covington, KY to Edna and Edward Galt. She graduated from Holmes High School and attended Agnes Scott College. She met her future husband as he was leaving for the Philippine Island during World War II. They corresponded during WWII and began their courtship upon his return. She married James Honekamp on June 26, 1948 and they moved to Decatur, GA, where they lived and raised their family. She was a dedicated volunteer for Crippled Children's Clinic. She later worked for Emory University Computing Center for 20 years. Jim and Ruth enjoyed many years of bridge, traveling and fellowship with friends and family at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church and Druid Hills Golf Club. She is predeceased by her only brother, Charles Robert Galt. She is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, James A. Honekamp. She is survived by her loving children, Susan Mistretta and husband Paul of Chamblee, GA, Linda Lamb and husband Mike of Columbus, GA , Jim Honekamp and wife Kathy Wise of Fripp Island, SC, Beth Broyles and husband Jim of Decatur, GA, and Kay Penter and husband David of Decatur, GA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tony Mistretta and wife Miffy, Jeff Mistretta and wife Anne, Daniel Mistretta and wife Hannah, Erica, Andrew, and Janet Mistretta; Joe and Tommy Lamb; Amanda, Steven and Meredith Broyles; and Payne, Linde and Henry Penter. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Thea, Caeli, Claire, Catherine, and Emily Mistretta. She is also survived by a host of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
