Charles A. Stubblebine, Jr.

September 5, 1938 — July 29, 2007

Charlie Stubblebine, a loving husband, father, and friend and a native of Decatur, GA, died unexpectedly July 29, 2007, while in Highlands, NC with lifelong friends. Charlie never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with a smile and a joke.  He was born at Emory University Hospital and grew up in Decatur, receiving his Eagle Scout badge with Troup #157 in 1952.  Charlie completed Decatur High School in 1957, attended Georgia Tech, and graduated from the University of Georgia.  An important part of Charlie's life was keeping the Decatur High School alumni together by organizing the reunions every year.  While at UGA, Charlie was a cheerleader and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He always looked forward to cheering the Bulldogs on each year at Homecoming. Charlie earned a CLU degree and had a long career in the life insurance business. He was a devoted member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and lived his faith by working for Habitat for Humanity, and serving as head usher and delegate to the North Georgia Annual Conference. Charlie wouldn't miss a Wednesday evening session playing his banjo with the pickers and singers at Oak Grove. Charlie will be missed by many loving friends and family.  He is survived by his wife Diane, son Carl Pitts of Marietta, daughter Ami Stephens (husband Wade Stephens) of Marietta, sister Suzanne Thomas (husband A.T. Thomas) of Ocala, FL, nephew Alec Thomas (wife Julie Thomas) of Ocala, FL, nephew Rob Thomas (wife Tanya Thomas) of Harleysville, PA, and grandsons Will and Taylor Stephens of Marietta. The family will receive friends at A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur, Wednesday August 1, 2007 from 6-9 pm. Funeral services will be held at Oak Grove United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Charlie's memory to Oak Grove United Methodist Church for "Habitat for Humanity" or "Music Ministry", OGUMC, 722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, GA  30033.  A Decatur High School Alumni Association Fund in memory of Charlie has been established. Donations may be sent to 758 Scott Blvd. Decatur, GA 30030. A. S. Turner & Sons
