Charles Eric Baca was born on January 23rd, 1970 in Liverpool, NY. He was raised in Syracuse and graduated high school from the Christian Brothers Academy. Growing up, Eric played baseball, wrestled, and became a karate black belt and instructor. He attended Clarkson University on an ROTC scholarship and earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. After college, he served in the U.S. Army as an Army Intelligence Officer from 1992-1996 at Fort Huachuca, AZ and Fort Stewart, GA.
Eric moved to Houston, TX in 1996 after fulfilling his obligation to serve his country. He attended Rice University where he earned an M.B.A in Finance and went on to earn the prestigious CFA designation. Throughout his professional career, Eric worked for PwC, SunTrust Bank, Deloitte, Emory University, and Wells Fargo Bank.
Eric moved to Decatur, GA in 2000 and had three children with his former wife Anne Collins- Elliot, Sam, and Maggie. He was an incredible father and loved spending time with his kids more than anything else. He enjoyed outdoor activities including long bike rides, rollerblading, camping, hiking, throwing a frisbee around, playing lacrosse, and snowboarding in the winter.
Eric was charitable and passionate about giving back to the community. He coached his sons' youth lacrosse teams, and taught the sport to children at Decatur Active Living and the YMCA. He volunteered regularly for Decatur High School's athletic booster program. He cared deeply about helping others and his legacy lives on in those who loved, cared for, and were positively impacted by him.
Eric is survived by his parents, Charlie and Carolyn Baca; his son, Elliot, his daughter, Maggie, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. His son, Sam, passed away in October 2023.
A private memorial service will be for the immediate family.
