Charles Dennis Spencer, age 74, born April 20, 1947 to Charles and Mable Spencer, died peacefully in his home of complications from Parkinson Disease on November 19, 2021. Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, sibling, friend and mentor.
Charles was an Air Traffic Controller both in the military in Vietnam and domestically at Newark airport. He wore many hats and one sent him back to college in pursuit of computer hardware/software certifications. He worked at NYNEX as a computer software Buyer for 5 years. Upon graduation from DeKalb Tech in 1994, he was hired in the IT department at United Consulting. He retired in 2013 as Director of IT.
In his off hours he and his wife started a computer software/repair company “Spurray Innovative Solutions”. Charles enjoyed traveling and was also an avid martial arts instructor, horseman, pet lover and outstanding chef.
He is survived by his wife Judith N. Gage; his daughter Thais Spencer; grandson Omari Carter; step-daughter Yvette Moore; grands Daria and Darrin Moore; twin sister Margaret Paul; brother Carl Hunter; sister Lisa McNair; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Charlene Spencer; sister Eleanor Jackson; and brother Arthur Hunter.
The family wishes to thank our Caregivers, Ms. Tomeka Wallace and Ms. Wendy Cassell, both of whom forged a lasting friendship with our family.
Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033 on December 1, 2021 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers we would appreciate donations to any one of his favorite organizations: American Heart Association, Wounded Warriors, St. Jude Hospital or American Parkinson’s Disease Association-APDA of Research at Emory University.
