Charles Eckles Barrow of Decatur, Ga, passed away Sunday morning November 9, 2014 at 3am. He was being attended to at Emory University Hospice when he was called home. Son of E.V. and Margaret Barrow, he was preceded in death by his three brothers; Julian, William, and Frank. Charles was born in Waco, Ga. on May 25, 1928. He grew up in Kirkwood, graduating from Tech High (now Grady High School) in Atlanta, in 1947. During the Korean War he served as a Navy Corpsman, 1948 to 1952. After returning home, Charles followed in his father's footsteps and became a barber. He worked in and owned several barber shops in the Decatur area for forty years, most notably East Side Barbershop which was located at the intersection of Clairmont and North Decatur Roads for thirty years. He was a proud veteran, faithful husband and loving father. He loved his Braves and held an encyclopedia-like knowledge of professional baseball and Georgia Tech Football. But he will be remembered most for the graceful and selfless manner in which he took care of his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Julia Barrow, two sons, Perry Lee and Charles Jr., daughter in-law, Kathleen, and granddaughter- in-love, Sarah Michelle Earls. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 13, at 10am at A.S.
