Charles Edmond Tidwell

March 1, 1933 — January 4, 2020

Charles (“Chazz”) Edmond Tidwell, 86, passed away on Saturday, January 4th at Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia. Chazz was raised in Atlanta and lived in Decatur, Georgia. Later in life, he found that he enjoyed living a peaceful country life in Woodland, Georgia.
Chazz is survived by his three sons: Steve Tidwell and his wife Katie of Savannah, Georgia; Scott Tidwell of Hoschton, Georgia; and Sid Tidwell and his wife Jenny of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter, Blake Van Nice and her husband James of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; grandson, Brock Tidwell of Roswell, Georgia and a bounty of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Nancy Fitts, of Hoschton, Georgia. Though divorced for many years, Nancy and Chazz remained very close friends throughout their lives. He is pre-deceased by his brother, Judge G. Earnest Tidwell.
After graduating from Grady High School, Chazz went off to college attending the University of Florida, University of Georgia, and finally earning his law degree from Emory University. Chazz served in the U.S. Army during the time of the Korean War prior to beginning his civilian career. He worked for many years in the Office of Legislative Counsel as Chief Deputy and retired as the Executive Counsel to Governor George Busbee. He appeared before the US Supreme Court representing the State of Georgia.
Chazz loved and was loved by his family, friends and dogs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and doing various chores on his 13 acres at his Splitrock Farm. He was a member of the Flint River Sportsmen’s Club for over 50 years, where he made many lifetime friends. It was there that he would hunt turkey, dove and deer with his sons, brother, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11 at 11:00 am at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home located at 2773 North Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00-11am. A luncheon reception will follow in the reception hall.
