Dr. Charles Allard, M.D., 81, of Atlanta died Sunday October 7, 2007. He was born in Chandler, Quebec on October 8, 1926 to Valmont Allard, M.D. and Estelle Leonard Allard, the 7th of 11 children. After graduating from college, he became an exchange student in Geneva, Switzerland. He graduated from medical school at the University of Geneva in December 1951. Dr. Allard interned in Quebec, Boston and New York. He was then commissioned into the U.S. Navy for three years before moving to Atlanta and starting a practice in general medicine and general surgery. He served as the medical director of the DeKalb County Jail for 17 years. While in practice he was on the staff of DeKalb Medical Center, and also Decatur Hospital where he directed a substance abuse program until retirement. Dr. Allard enjoyed golfing with friends and family and was at one time president of East Lake Golf Club. He also served on the Board of Druid Hills Country Club. The family wishes to thank the doctors and medical staff at DeKalb Medical Center and Decatur Hospital for all of their kindness and care. Dr. Allard was loved and respected by his many patients, friends and family and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ann Allard-Ratick and step-daughter, Deborah Witcher Siver. He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Allard; sons, Philippe Allard and his wife Debbi, Marc Allard and wife Kimberly and their children, Marianne and Thomas, Michel Allard and wife Roxane; daughter, Judith Taraszka and husband Ken and their daughters, Samantha and Emily; son-in-law, Sam Ratick; grandson, Marc Allard Ratick; step-children, Chris Witcher and wife Kim and their children, Brent, Courtney and Natalie, Michael Witcher; siblings, Jacques Allard, Gilles Allard, Fernande Roe, Beatrice Joncos, Irene Sutton, Laurence Rochette, Jacqueline Le Blanc; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 12 Noon Thursday, October 11th, Rev. Davis Chappell officiating. Burial will follow in Hillandale Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Shepherd Center. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
