Charles (Charlie) Edward Grainger, resident of Sandy Springs, Georgia, formerly of Huntsville, Alabama, was born on May 22, 1937 and passed away on Friday, December 10, 2022 after 5 years of health challenges due to a stroke.
Charlie lived through eight decades of positive change in his favorite place---the American South. Born on an unpaved Alabama country road during the Great Depression, he nearly died twice during infancy, nearly drowned as a teenager, then escaped death as a young man while flying on a small plane. Through multiple near death experiences, he says that God was always in his corner.
Mr. Grainger worked as a newspaperman for Birmingham news and began his career at Teledyne Brown Engineering as public relations director advancing to Vice President of administration. He retired after 40
years and established his own consulting firm, CG Technologies Inc. It was in this role that he achieved his greatest accomplishments and contributions.
Charlie was very active and involved in politics throughout his lifetime and served 2 terms as Alabama State Representative. He was also an avid sportsman, particularly supporting University of Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. His dream came true when the Braves won the world series in 2021 and he was able to attend all of the championship games played in Atlanta.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Sullenberger Grainger, sisters Linda Grainger James and Joyce Grainger Farmer, sons Charles (Chuck) Edward Grainger, Jr. (Michell), and Guy Bartly Grainger, and daughter Carla Grainger Reeves, along with grandchildren Grainger Reeves, Drew Reeves, Coleman Reeves, Carter Grainger, Dalton Grainger, and Hannah Sylvest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olen and Lorene Marsh Grainger.
