Charles was born on March 22, 1930 in Monroe, Georgia and passed away at his residence on Wednesday February 10th, 2021. He attended Monroe High School and there met the love of his life, Elizabeth, there. They were married on August 19, 1951 in the First United Methodist Church in Monroe, Georgia (the first marriage in the new building). He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1949 to 1951 and graduated with an Architectural degree in Building Construction. He was in Army ROTC during college. After college he was stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia then deployed to Camp Roberts, California to train Army troops, during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth Kirk, son Jerre (Sarah) Kirk, daughters Tina (Richard) Kemp, Cynthia Bird, Susan (Mark) Holt and Lisa (Pat) Moore. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren: 13 great grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He worked in the Atlanta, Georgia Construction Industry for a total 59 years and was well respected by his peers and competitors. During this time he founded and was President of Arten Construction Co., Inc. for 14 years. He was a very religious man who loved reading the bible and doing his devotionals everyday of his life with his wife. He was an avid reader from his younger days to the end and loved reading the Wall Street Journal cover to cover everyday. He loved the Atlanta Braves baseball team and the Georgia Tech Jackets football team (who by the way never lost a game while he attended University). His sense of humor was always there when you spoke with him and the love of his family as well. His services will be held on Monday February 15th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home with interment to follow at West Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Monroe, GA. The family will receive friends from to pm prior to his services. A. S. Turner & Sons, Decatur GA
