Charles F. Dewald was born 2/23/1929, died 3/14/2017 at DeKalb Medical North Decatur. He graduated from Boys High in 1947; Georgia Tech in 1952 as an Industrial Engineer and married Gretta Moll on 12/20/1951. Gretta passed on 10/30/2006. He married Martha Hinely on July 16, 2011. He had five children, Mike who passed in 2014, Jon of Wilson, NC, Hank of Littleton, NC, Janie Eidson of McDonough, Joseph of Winchester, VA and eight grandchildren along with four great-grandchildren. Mr. Dewald was very active in North Decatur Presbyterian Church from the late '50's to present day. He had two brothers, Paul and Robert who have also passed.
Charles was Vice President of the Automated Systems group, Acco Babcock Inc located in Frederick, MD. During the '60's and early '70's, he concepted/designed/sold/managed the implementation of many outstanding conveyor system projects. He also managed organizations in this work. He retired in 1987 and then was self employed as a Mechanical Engineer consultant.
He lived his Christian values in all that he did. He was very generous in volunteering his time in the community as well as traveling to New Orleans to assist in their repair and rebuilding efforts. He contributed to many charities and missionary work, all dear to his heart. He was also a lover of animals.
Charles thoroughly enjoyed his time flying gliders. He even purchased a home in Stone Mountain with a requirement that he could park his glider trailer in the garage. He started flying in Frederick, MD and continued in Georgia. He was also an avid Georgia Tech fan.
He served his country with pride as a First Lieutenant, Signal Corps of the United States Army. He was on active duty from 1952 to 1954 and was honorably discharged from the Army Reserve in 1961.
Funeral Services will be held at 2pm, Saturday March 18th at North Decatur Presbyterian Church, Rev David Lewicki presiding. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
