Dr. Charles Harry Hamilton, age 73, of Atlanta, passed away November 26, 2007 after suffering complications due to cancer. He was born in Macon, Georgia October 16, 1934 to the late John R. Hamilton and Alice Stubbs Hamilton. After graduating from Lanier Boy's High, Charles came to Atlanta and attended Ga. Institute of Technology where he received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduating from Ga. Tech. he served in active duty in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corps for 6 months, then the reserves, after which he received and honorable discharge with the rank of Captain. In 1964 he entered Emory Univ. School of Medicine where he obtained his medical degree. His internship was at Emory and Grady Memorial Hospitals as was his residency. Charles was an instructor and Asst. Professor at Emory University School of Medicine. From 1973 to present, Dr. Hamilton was the internal medical doctor at Asa G. Yancey/Northwest, Grady and Director of Medical Services. Having come from a musical family, he also was very talented in music. So he joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and was selected by Conductor Robert Shaw to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus. Mr. Shaw and his family became very close friends with Charles and relied on him to travel with them to their vacation home in the south of France as their companion and family physician. Charles was a founding member of The Atlanta Singers, a member of the High Museum of Art and the Ansley Park Civic Association. Throughout his illness he had a wonderful up-beat attitude, handling his terminal situation in a very positive manner. He is survived by his devoted sister, Alice Ann Hamilton. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3003 Howell Mill Rd., N.W., Atlanta, GA.
