Charles L. Jackson

June 24, 1920 — July 12, 2007

Mr. Charles L. Jackson, 87, a native of Atlanta died Thursday, July 12, 2007.  He attended Boys High School, Southern Business University and Georgia State University.  During World War II he served in the 15th Air Force as a radio operator and gunner in the European Theater.  He flew on a B-17 Flying Fortress, bombing strategic targets.  His plane was shot down over Austria and he was a POW in Germany for nine months.  He retired from Life of Georgia and was a member of the First Christian Church of Atlanta, where he served as an elder.  He is survived by his wife, Bernice Jackson of Decatur; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Ron Deal of Statham (formerly Snellville) and Jenni and Danny Fleming of Statham; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffry and Deborah Jackson of Tucker; grandsons, Ronnie Deal, Jr. of Watkinsville, Allen Deal of Columbia, SC, Scott Fleming of Birmingham, AL, Charles  G. Jackson of Tucker; granddaughters, Melanie Deal of Atlanta, and Amy Fleming of Athens; sister-in-law, Libby Jackson; three great grandsons; and three great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, July 14th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons.  Dr. George Wascovich and Dr. Roger Sizemore will officiate.  Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Atlanta, 4532 LaVista Rd., Tucker, GA 30084.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
