Charles Lindsay Ross

August 22, 1934 — May 23, 2016

On the evening of May 23, 2016, Charles Lindsay Ross (Charlie) passed away peacefully at his home after a short illness. He was surrounded by the women he loved, his wife and two daughters, and his granddog, Josie, on his lap. Charlie was 81 years old.
Charlie was born on August 22, 1934 in Martinsville, Virginia. He was the only child of Alton and Ponese Ross. Charlie led an accomplished life filled with family and friends. He met his wife in a rainstorm at Emory and Henry College. They married in September 1957 shortly after his graduation with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After serving in the United States Army for two years, he returned to academia to earn his Masters of Business Administration at Emory University.
His long and distinguished career began at the Trust Company of Georgia (SunTrust) in Atlanta, Georgia. After five years at the Trust Company, he began working with software companies selling financial software packages to Fortune 500 companies. After retirement from the software industry, he worked as a financial advisor.
He loved to play tennis and was a huge threat to anyone across the court. He was very well read and was always reading several books at the same time. He was a true intellectual and loved having deep conversations with family and friends. Anyone that spent time with Charlie certainly had a conversation that began "Did you know…" based upon something he was reading at the time. He also was a talented artist and several of his paintings are displayed in his home.
Charlie always had a special place in his heart for all dogs and sometimes preferred dogs to people! He loved watching sports on television, and when his grandsons began to play sports, you could always find him at their baseball, lacrosse, and football games!
Charlie was a devoted member of Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church for over 30 years, where he was an usher and spent many hours volunteering for various needs of the church and community. He was always there to help a friend in need and spent many hours at the nursing home beside a beloved aunt before her passing. He was generous man with his heart, his time, and his funds.
He enjoyed meeting his Krystal friends for breakfast most mornings, being with friends from the church, and spending time with his family. He had a very close relationship with his two grandsons, his two daughters, and his wife of 59 years.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Betty (Betsy) Dillman Ross; daughters Angela Ross and Allison Ross Mitchamore and husband Steve; two grandsons, Ross and Riley Mitchamore; and numerous cousins.
Charlie's memorial service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, May 28 at 1:00 PM at Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church, 3142 Lawrenceville Road, Tucker, GA 30084. Visitation will begin at noon prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to his favorite charities – Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church and The Atlanta Humane Society.
