Charles Suber Kitchen

Charles S. Kitchen, 86, of Atlanta, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday March 19, 2015 after an extended illness. A native Atlantan, Mr. Kitchen was born November 26, 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Edna Kitchen; son, Charles S. Kitchen, Jr. (Chuck) and two brothers Hubert Jr. and Clyde. He attended Boy's High and was a faithful member of the Boy's High Alumni Association. He along with his partner Ed Haynie, founded and owned Kitchen and Haynie Royal Tire Company in 1968 and built a successful business in Atlanta until his retirement in 1995. He is a lifelong member and past President of Druid Hills Golf Club, where he enjoyed many years of golf and traveling with friends to golf courses all over the world. He often referred to himself as "The World's Greatest Putter ". Living in DeKalb County most of his life, he was a member of Epworth Methodist Church and later Oak Grove Methodist Church. He was especially proud of his large family and leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Gaye W. Kitchen; son, Jeffrey M. Kitchen (Cate), grandsons Andrew ( Shelton ), Britt ( Natalie ) and Scott ( Lindsey ); 5 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. His funeral service will be held 11:00 am at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur on Wednesday, March 25th, 2015 with Dr. Glenn Ethridge and Rev. Britt Kitchen officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 am at the church prior to the service and a reception will follow immediately in the Fellowship Hall after the service. Interment will be in historic Oakland Cemetery at 2:00 pm. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
