Charles Thompson

Charles S. “Sam” Thompson passed peacefully on November 22, 2008 at home among his family.  Sam was born March 30, 1927 in College Park, GA to Homer and Flora Mae Thompson, raised in Luthersville, GA and lived in Atlanta and Tucker, GA.  He was preceded in death by a brother Homer Thompson, Jr. and survived by his loving wife of 58 years Frances C. Thompson, brother Henry Leverett of Quincy, FL and sister-in-law Grace Thompson Brunson of Florence, SC, sons Willis Thompson and wife Leisa of Suwanee, GA, David Thompson and wife Jenny of Buford, GA, and daughters Sheryl Mick and husband Doug of Memphis, TN and Julie Creasy and husband Jesse of Lilburn, GA, five grandsons, three granddaughters, and two great granddaughters.  Sam served in WWII in the U.S. Army Military Police and was retired from Life of Georgia Insurance Co. after over 40 years of service.  He was of the Methodist faith and longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in midtown Atlanta, serving in many positions including usher, greeter and trustee.   The funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, 2:00 PM at Grace United Methodist Church458 Ponce de Leon Avenue, Atlanta, GA  30308 with Dr. Jim Howell officiating. Interment, Floral Hills Memory Gardens. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church in memory of Charles S. “Sam” Thompson. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 24, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home-Decatur, GA.
