Charles William Shumate

Charles William Shumate, 84, of Atlanta, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Monday, Sept 25, 2017. Born March 12, 1933 in Marion VA, he was the son of late James Randolph Shumate and Edith Rhoades Prater Shumate. Charles served in the U.S Marine Corp, studied at the University of Alabama and earned his MBA at Georgia State University. He worked for many years and retired from Sutherland Asbill & Brennan. Charles is survived by his wife Frances Marie Browne Shumate; son David Charles Shumate; daughter Leslie Marie Shumate Crawley: son-in-law William Mark Crawley; grandson William Brian Crawley; and granddaughter Elizabeth Marie Crawley. The family will have a private service at the family cemetery in Marion at a later date. Donations to the American Cancer Society or to your favorite charity appreciated in lieu of flowers.
