On Friday, April 22nd, Charles William Walden, M.D., of Dawsonville, GA passed away at age 77. The son of W.E. Walden and Elsie Ragland Walden, Dr. Walden grew up in Newnan, GA and graduated from Newnan High School, Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Walden served 2 years with the U.S. Public Health Service (Navy) in Baltimore, MD, then returned to Atlanta to open a private practice in psychiatry, retiring after 37 years. Additionally, he served 2 terms as chief of psychiatry at DeKalb General Hospital. His memberships included the following organizations: DeKalb Medical Society, Medical Association of Georgia, American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association and Decatur Rotary Club. He was honored as a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. In his free time, Dr. Walden enjoyed photography, travel, movies and books, but most of all, his time with family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Grace Woods Walden, his high school sweetheart, as well as by his 3 children: Elizabeth Walden Peden, Charles Walden, Jr., and Chris Walden. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Andrew Peden, Melissa Peden Dixon (Will Dixon), Adam Peden, Olivia Walden, Ben Walden, Jonathan Walden and Katrina Walden, as well as by great-granddaughter, Madison Dixon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church Music Fund (Dawsonville, GA) or the Georgia Tech Foundation.
Visitation will be at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home on Sunday, April 24th at 3:00 pm, followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 4:00 pm. A graveside service will be on Monday, April 25th at 11:00 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan, GA.
