Charles William Young

Mr. Charles William Young, age 78, of Decatur, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 in Hospice Care at Emory University Hospital. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, JoAnn Eubanks Young, his sons, Daniel McClelen Young (Elizabeth Kaye Evans) and Scott William Young, brothers, Downey Young (Aydee Garcia), Victor Young, sisters, Laura Egan (Rick) and Liz Englehart (Kevin) as well as many other relatives.

Charlie was born in Rome, but grew up in Atlanta's West End. He attended St. Anthony's Elementary School and St. Joseph's Catholic High School. His activities included basketball, track and he was a photographer for the Annual.

He spent 4 years in the Navy as a cook serving most of his time on base in Little Creek, Virginia. He was honored to have been able to serve his country. In his later years he wore his retired Navy baseball cap with pride.

When he returned to the Atlanta area, he attended Clayton State College and graduated with an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice. He pursued his career in criminal justice by working for the State Board of Corrections for 4 years. He then went to work for the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department where he retired after 26 years of service at the rank of Lieutenant.

Charlie was a man of many talents and interests. Some of his hobbies included pinball machines, cooking, gardening, photography, wood-working, and he had a love for movies.

The family will receive visitors at A.S Turner & Sons, Decatur, Georgia from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00P.M. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 followed by a service held in the Chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons at 3:00 P.M. A private burial will be held at the Decatur Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Charlie to St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Cedartown, Georgia; Marine Toys for Tots Foundation; or ahimsahouse.org. All of these charities held a deep and special meaning to Charlie.
