Charlotte Martin Sanders, age 96, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. She was born October 16, 1919 in Paris, Tennessee, the daughter of Albert D. and Myrtle Love Sauer.
In 1942, Charlotte married James H. Martin, a young Navy Lieutenant and successful business executive; with whom she raised two children. Jim passed away in 1976, and in 1979, Charlotte met and married Richard (Dick) Sanders.
Charlotte thoroughly enjoyed the arts, dancing, interior decoration, travel and spending time with friends. As a resident of Decatur, GA from 1952 to 2011, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur and also a 30-year Patron Season Ticket holder of the Fox Theater. She was an accomplished artist, painting oil portraits at home and teaching Interior Design at Atlanta Area Tech. In her free time, she enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends and traveling across the US and Canada with Dick, who played in a Senior tennis circuit well into his 90's.
In 2011, Charlotte moved to The Bridge at Lawrenceville, an Assisted Living Facility, where she spent her last years enjoying new friends and becoming a cherished "family member" of the loving caregivers.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Pamela Martin Lanford; her son, Keith Edward Martin; sister, Jeane Smith and husband Sam; two grandsons, Scott Lanford of Chattanooga, TN, and Christopher James Martin and his wife Lauren, of San Francisco, CA; and two great grandsons, Lucas Witt Martin and Isaac Jude Martin.
There will be a private memorial service for immediate family members and caregivers at The Bridge at Lawrenceville.
