Charner Franklin Cook

June 8, 1923 — June 24, 2014

Charner F. Cook Jr. (Frank), age 91, of Tucker, GA died June 24, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Canton, GA June 8, 1923, he was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charner F. and Ethel Cook, his stepmother Mattie Cook, his sister Billie Cook and brother Wayne Cook. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 69 years, Eva Moss Cook. His three daughters - Charna (Doug) McCurry, Renee (David) Fowler and Nikki (Tim) Orr consider themselves the most blessed of people. Daddy's joy for life, his unconditional love for us all, and his unyielding support was the rock upon which we all built our lives. He is survived by his grandchildren Jason (Kristy) Bell, Shannon (Libor) Stojar, Shane (Leah) Henderson and Trace (Monica) Henderson and the great- grandchildren who brought so much happiness to their PawPaw - Brittnie, Megan (Will), Demri, Reese, Samantha and great-great grandson Brooks. He is also survived by his brother Bob (Pat) Cook, sister Leola Abernathy, his cousins and the many nieces and nephews who all consider Uncle Frank their very favorite uncle. He was indeed a gentle giant in the hearts of them all. He was proud to have served his country and was a true American. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he incurred shrapnel wounds when his ship was attacked, and later served during the Korean War. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner in the Yaarab Temple. He retired from Atlanta Gas Light Company in 1989 after years of faithful service. He spent his retirement years enjoying life, his garden, and fishing with his buddies on the pier in Panama City Beach. Most importantly, he spent those years as an ever-present source of love and support for his immediate and extended family. Daddy was known by all for his quick wit and ready smile, for his intelligence and curiosity, and for the stories of his life and adventures. Every story was compelling, whether from his early youth in the country, time spent with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), his experiences during the war, his working days at AGL or his perspective on life. Though he will be missed more than we can even imagine, we will be sustained by our memories of him and the lifelong legacy of love, devotion and sacrifice he set for us all. Our sincere gratitude and thanks go to the compassionate and caring staff of Dekalb Medical and to nephew Lee Moss and wife Dianne for their constant support during his hospitalization. Services will be held Sunday, June 29 at 4:00 at A.S. Turner and Sons, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033 with Rev. Mike Schmid presiding. The family will receive friends at 2:00 for a visitation preceding the service. Always a charitable man, Daddy would have been grateful if you would consider a donation in his memory to Scottish Rite or a charity of your choice.
