Christine Joyce Crosby, 93, passed away peacefully at her home of 57 years on Wednesday September 30, 2015. A native Atlantan, Chris attended Girls High School. She was an active member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church for 56 years, serving there in many different capacities. She would visit home-bound members and was a member of the Alter Guild.
After graduating from high school, Chris worked for AT&T and then for National Linen Company. On September 3, 1943, she married the love of her life, David A Crosby, who she met at a Georgia Tech dance. Married for 57 years, they enjoyed many happy times together, traveling the world, going to Georgia Tech football and basketball games, spending time at Fernandina Beach with the family, and just being with their many friends.
Chris was a gracious southern lady through and through. From her southern accent, her southern cooking, her gift for entertaining, her love for gardening, she set a wonderful example for her children and grandchildren. She has truly been an inspiration to us all.
Chris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David A. Crosby; her parents, Christine Carpenter and Edward Carpenter; sister, Dorothy Gibson; and several other family members. She is survived by her daughters Carol Stillerman of Decatur, GA, and Rebecca Risse and her husband, John, of Marietta, GA; son, David Crosby, Jr. and his wife, Phoebe, of Cumming, GA; six grandchildren, "Chip" Stillerman, Ed Stillerman, "Tripp" Crosby, Katy Owen, Meg Fender and her husband, Scott, and Melissa Thorson and her husband, Steve; and twelve great grandchildren.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church or Hospice Atlanta.
The family will receive friends and family from 7 to 9 pm Friday, October 2, 2015 at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA. Her funeral service will be held at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in Decatur at 2 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2015, with a graveside service to follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
