Claire Davis Smith

On Sunday July 31, 2016, Jesus stretched out his arms and took His child, Claire Davis Smith, to her eternal home. There, surely, she was greeted at the gate by her infant daughter, Megan, her youngest son, Wes, and her father, Robert F. Davis Sr., all having found their way to heaven in advance of her.

Claire was born on February 9, 1952 in Winston-Salem, NC. At age 11, her family moved to Decatur where she attended Briarlake Elementary and Lakeside High School. Her parents were active members of Clairmont Hills Baptist Church. At the age of 15, while attending an after service fellowship at the church, she was approached by a 16-year-old Briarcliff High School student that asked her for a date. She said no. The persistent 16-year old, who happened to be friends with Claire's brother, managed to get the brother to talk her into a "double" date for the next weekend. Three years later, they married and spent 46 years as man and wife.

Claire was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grand-mother. She was a devout Christian with a thirst for the Word and a desire to share it. She was a beacon of strength coupled with immeasurable compassion. She loved life and all of the people in it. She will be missed by all that have known her.

Claire is survived by her mother, Margaret B. Davis, her husband, Bill, son, Sean, daughter, Brittany Stewart, son-in-law Christopher Stewart, grand-children, Maddox and Julianne Stewart, brother, Robert Davis Jr, sister-in-law, Celia Davis, sister-in-law, Carol Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. We hope that her close friends will recognize the family-like love that she felt for them. She loved them all deeply.

Family will receive visitors on Wednesday evening, August 3, from 6 to 8PM at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033. The service will be held Thursday, August 4 at 11 AM at Smoke Rise Baptist Church, 5901 Hugh Howell Road, Stone Mountain, GA 30087, with Dr. J. Truett Gannon, officiating.
