Clara Eller Gray, 96, of Decatur, beloved wife and mother, passed away on September 9, 2015. Born December 15, 1918, in Clifton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Millard Hansford and Dora Naomi Lewis Eller, and was married since April 16, 1949, to the love of her life, the late Thomas Ingalls Gray, Sr. During WWII Clara joined the Navy and later was an advocate for the Woman's War Memorial in Washington, DC. She went on to become a secretary in the education department of Emory University. She was a member of Clifton United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and her family.
Clara is survived by her four children, Thomas Ingalls Gray, Jr. and his wife, Janet Gordon Gray, Roger Lewis Gray and his wife, Diane Brinker Gray, Helen Louise Roman and her husband, Jerome Roman, and Linda Gray Edwards and her husband, Cecil Edwards; two sisters, Dana Eller Jackson, Mary Eller Faris; brother, Millard Hansford Eller, Jr.; eleven grandchildren, James Gordon Gray, Benjamin Gray Edwards, Meredith Claire Edwards, Elana Louise Edwards, Adam Brinker Gray and his wife, Maggie Wang Gray, Samuel Thomas Gray, Mara Taylor Gray, Anna Rebecca Gray, Lydia Clare Gray, Lea Marie Gray, and Jacob Michael Gray; and many more loving family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Clara was preceded in death by her son, James Eller Gray; sisters, Nancy Eller Mowry, Virginia Eller Carpenter, and Evelyn Eller; and brothers, Joseph Eller, Claude Eller, and Robert Eller.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
The family will have a Celebration of Mrs. Gray's Life at the family farm in June of 2016.
