Clare Gramling Stutts

Mrs. Clare Gramling Stutts of Atlanta / Augusta GA died Monday, August 15, 2016 At Doctor's Hospital in Augusta. Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at 1 o'clock in the chapel at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home at 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA (404-292-1551). Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens on Lawrenceville Hwy.
The family will receive friends one-half hour before the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Stutts was born in Orangeburg, SC, daughter of the late Thomas Laurie Gramling and Rosa Stroman Gramling. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Marvin Frank Stutts. She is survived by her daughter, Rosanne Stutts of Augusta, sister-in-law, Kathryn Gramling Townsend, nephew, Richard Gramling and wife, Lorraine, all of Orangeburg, SC and nephew, Larry Gramling and wife, Lea of Greenville, SC. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, James Stutts, niece Terri Stutts Stewart and husband Ralph, and Jan Stutts Adkins and husband, Tom, all from Augusta, GA.
She received her undergraduate degree from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC and did graduate work in education at R.P.I. of the College of William and Mary in Richmond, VA and Queens College University in Charlotte, NC. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, National Honors Society for Educators and a dedicated teacher. She helped write a seventh grade English book that was in use for several years. She touched the lives of many seventh graders in Rock Hill, SC, Charlotte, NC, Richmond, VA and retired from Midvale Elementary School in Dekalb County, Atlanta, GA in 1979. Many college seniors experienced their practice teaching in her classroom under her supervision.
She was a long-standing member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Friendship Circle and Faith Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Clare's memory may make donations to the Oak Grove UMC Building Fund; 1722 Oak Grove Rd; Decatur, GA 30033 or to a charity of your choice.
