Clarence Lorenzo James was born June 19, 1934 in Melder, Louisiana. He was the seventh of eight children born to Houston James, Sr. and Lizzie (Jones) James. Clarence fell asleep in death on Sunday January 15, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia.
In June 1958, Clarence wed Rosemary Brown. From this union, he was blessed with five children: Avery, Keith, Yvette, Andre, and Renee.
In 1968, Clarence moved his family from New York City to Pontiac, Michigan, where he was employed as an assemblyman at General Motors. Clarence worked diligently for GM and retired in March 2002 after 34 years of service.
His love for Jehovah God and Jesus Christ moved him to be baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in June 1952 at a district convention in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. For many years, Clarence had curtailed his spiritual activity. However, after he moved to Decatur, Georgia, in August 2014, Clarence resumed his worship to Jehovah with the loving support of family and friends in the Clarkston Congregation.
Clarence loved to be around his family and extended family, traveling across the United States for many years to attend the annual Dunlap Family Reunion (he had the t-shirts to prove it!).
Clarence was preceded in death by his son, Andre, and seven siblings: Jessie Mae, Curtis, Alma, Irma, Alice, Houston, Jr. and Eunice. Left to cherish his memory are his four surviving children, Avery, Keith, Yvette James and Renee (Russell) Nails; four grandchildren, Sula Baldwin, Chavon James, Desa Daniel, and Vashanti James; two great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
