Reverend Claude Emerson Smithmier passed away peacefully in Canton Ga at the age of 89 on Wednesday January 5th 2017. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, his two daughters Linda Filandrinos and Claudia Smithmier, three sisters Velda Biro, Helen Faye Smith and Laurice Roaten, three grandchildren Chris Wingo, Matt Roach and Tessa Smithmier along with several nieces and nephews. Claude was born on September 22, 1927 in Memphis TN To Lawrence Anthony Smithmier and Martha Jane Rash Smithmier. He was one of 11 children. Claude, his father and two brothers were all in the ministry and were known at revivals as 'my three sons'. He brought hundreds to find Jesus and united the same in marriage. Reverend Claude graduated from Memphis State University and was the captain of the football team. His entire team joined the military to fight for our country. He has an honorable doctorate and was the National Chaplain of the American Legion. Throughout his life serving God, he ministered at the following churches: Mount Vernon, Oglethorpe, Saint Stephens, Skyland, College Park and Toccoa. He retired in 1993. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2016 at Skyland United Methodist church at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 10, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Hickory Flat Methodist Church in Canton, Ga.
