Claudia Mae Dunaway Lowery died October 29, 2014 in Atlanta at the age of 95. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Mrs. Lowery was a devoted wife to her husband of 71 years, Marion Roscoe Lowery, and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a tireless volunteer for numerous civic organizations in the Atlanta area. She was a past president of the Georgia and DeKalb County Jaycettes, served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Easter Seal Society, and was an active member of the Avondale Estates Garden Club and the Avondale Estates Women's Club; she chaired the Avondale Restoration Committee, which worked on numerous projects to beautify the city. A long-time member of First Baptist Church of Decatur, she co-chaired the Wedding Committee with her husband. She and Roscoe also served for many years as poll managers for DeKalb County elections. Her kindness, generosity, strength and loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Barbara Abell of Conyers and Roxanne Lowery of Stone Mountain; sons-in-law Jay Abell and Peter Cornelis; granddaughters Claudia Sexton of Duluth and Heather Myers of Jefferson; and five great-grandchildren.
