Dr. Clive Franklin Jacks, Jr., born March 16th, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 28th, 2024, at the age of 92. He is survived by his son, Dr. Timothy Franklin Jacks and wife Priscilla Jacks, his sister, Elizabeth Miller, his niece, Cathy Clemons and husband Dr. Bruce Clemons and their children, Abigail, William, and Eleanor, his niece Rebecca Duff and husband Jeremy Duff and their children, Grace Ann and Charles, his former spouse, Ann Elizabeth Choate Power, his granddaughter Lynsey "Elle" Dancy and grandson Alec Dancy, his cousin, Carol George, and his best friend, Dr. George Allan. He is predeceased by his father, Clive Franklin Jacks, Sr., his mother, Elizabeth Catherine Jacks, and his aunt, Margaret Helen George.

Dr. Jacks grew up in Decatur, GA. He earned a bachelor's degree at Emory University in philosophy, a master of divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary, and a doctorate in theology from Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

Dr. Jacks spent his life in service as a Presbyterian minister in Waxhaw, NC and as a college professor. He taught classes in Bible Studies, Greek language, Philosophy, and World Religions at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA, Bangor Theological Seminary in Maine, Spelman College in Atlanta, Queens College in Charlotte, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and retired from teaching at Pikeville College in Kentucky as Chair of the Humanities Department. His intellectual passions extended throughout his retirement, and he was committed to professional learning until the end of his life. His legacy lives on through the many students he taught and his son who followed in his footsteps and now teaches at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Dr. Jacks was a voracious reader and book collector, a self-confessed "foodie", and an adventurous traveler. He led student study abroad trips to Israel and India, took his family to Europe many times, and loved driving across the country to visit family and friends, exploring bookstores along the way.

Arrangements are being coordinated through A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home who are hosting an online guest register at www.asturner.com. A funeral service led by Dr. Todd Speed will be held at Decatur Presbyterian Church (205 Sycamore St., Decatur, GA) on Monday, May 6th at 2:30pm. A private graveside service at Westview Cemetery will be held earlier at 1:00pm.
