Clyde Howard Mynatt, Sr. passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at his home in Decatur on March 21, 2009. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Briarcliff Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends at the church at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service. Mr. Mynatt was born in Columbus, Ga. on March 7, 1912 to Clyde Howard Mynatt and Fuller Mynatt. Having spent most of his life in the Atlanta area, he was a graduate of Boys High and Georgia Institute of Technology. His business career spanned 65 years in the insurance industry, serving as state agent for Loyalty Group and special agent for The Continental Insurance Company. Due to his expertise in the insurance field, at the age of 65 he was asked to join two of his sons at Draper-Owens Company where he continued his employment until age 85. He was a life deacon in the Baptist Church and served as chairman of the board at First Baptist of Atlanta, Buckhead Baptist, and Briarcliff Baptist Churches. He taught Sunday School for over 60 years and the Men's Bible Class into his early 90's. He chaired the committee a Briarcliff Baptist that set the ground work for building Kings Bridge Retirement Complex. Mr. Mynatt was preceded in death by his wife a 45 years, Bazalyn Coley Mynatt, and their friend and his second wife, Laura Reynolds Mynatt. Laura and Mr. Mynatt were married for 23 years. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde and Jackie Mynatt, John and Becky Mynatt, James and Cindy Mynatt, Betty and Jim Hayes; and 9 grandchildren, Ken Mynatt, Cheryl and Kevin Wyckoff, Jeff and Melissa Mynatt, John and Amy Mynatt, Lee Anne and Glen Dasher, Coley and Kim Mynatt, Scott and Stephanie Mynatt, Gardner and Judy Reynolds, and Allison and Tyler Barnett. He was blessed with 21 great-grandchildren and his loving caregiver, Doreene Blair. Mr. Mynatt was an example of grace and good manners to all who met and knew him. He valued faith, family and friends above all else. He was an inspiration to his family as he quietly and wisely listened, guided and touched their lives. The most important thing in his life was sharing his faith. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Briarcliff Baptist Church. A. S. Turner & Sons
