Colonel John "Jack" McCamy, (Retired), age 72, of Stone Mountain, Georgia died Thursday, September 20th. He was a graduate of North Georgia College, had an MBA from Pepperdine University in California, and was a 30-year Army Infantry veteran. In that career, Colonel McCamy served his country in Vietnam with two tours of duty. During his 30-year tenure with the military, he was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and many more military honors and accolades. Since retiring from the service in 1989, Jack has greatly enjoyed cheering on his beloved Georgia Bulldogs, golfing, and spending time with family and friends at the lake. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Loretta McCamy; one son, John McCamy, one daughter, Aurelia Thorn; two step-daughters, Vicky Giles, Terry Gantt; eight grandchildren; nine siblings; and many nieces and nephews. The viewing will be held on Monday, September 24th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur with the service the following morning, September 25th, at the same location at 10:00 am. Colonel McCamy will then be buried with military honors at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 25th. A. S. Turner & Sons
