Col. (ret.) William H. (Bill) Lowe, Decatur, GA, died October 16, 2004. Col. Lowe was born in Buena Vista, GA on April 11, 1920. He attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega and enlisted in the US Army on September 13, 1940. Col. Lowe was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on May 5, 1942. During World War II, he was sent to France where he fought with the 3rd Army under General Patton. Among other medals, he earned the Bronze Star with cluster, and the Silver Star for heroism in battle. Col. Lowe also served a tour of duty during the Korean conflict. He retired from active duty after 30 years on July 12, 1970 at Fort McPherson, GA. In 1970, Col. Lowe was employed with the Georgia Department of Corrections, where he was ultimately promoted to Deputy Director. He retired from employment with the state in September 1982. He is survived by Margaret Gray Lowe, whom he married in June 2001; and was predeceased by Bette Blackmon Lowe, his wife of 55 years. He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Hollinger (Holly) and Roy Singleton of Stone Mountain, and Susan Elizabeth and Mike Borucki of Tallahassee, Florida; two grandchildren, William Michael Borucki and Carolyn Elizabeth Borucki of Tallahassee; and one sister, Dorathy Lowe Forrester of Americus, Georgia. Funeral services will be held at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Decatur, GA at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, with interment at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 in Buena Vista Cemetery, Buena Vista, GA. Visitation will be 7:00 to 9:00 PM Monday at A. S. Turner & Sons and one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions to Oak Grove United Methodist Church in memory of Bill Lowe. A. S. Turner & Sons
