Cristina J. Machado Izaguirre, 99, returned to her heavenly home on January 1, 2017. Her faith in God was always the source of her Joy, Peace, and Inner Strength. She was born in Victoria de Las Tunas, Cuba in March of 1917 to Juan Machado and Cristina González and was the granddaughter of Ramiro González Parajón (of Asturias, Spain) and Valduvina Torres Socarrás. She was the beloved wife of Amado Eleazar Izaguirre (of Manzanillo, Cuba) son of Elena Girona Pacheco and Francisco Izaguirre Garrigo and grandson of Bienvenida Pacheco de Céspedes and José Girona Ravena. While in Cuba, Cristina was professor of Corte-e-Costura, President of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU), Deaconess and Sunday School Teacher of the Iglesia Bautista (Baptist Church) of Victoria de Las Tunas. She immigrated to the United States in 1968 as a political refugee and settled in Atlanta, Georgia. While in Atlanta, as a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir of the Spanish Mission. She worked at Bee Line Lighting Company in Atlanta for over thirty years, dedicated her life to her Lord and the care of her family. She loved literature, reciting poetry, singing, embroidery, needlework and travel. She was blessed with a large and loving family. She dedicated her children and grandchildren to the Lord and encouraged them to be Light in the world and live by the teachings in 1 Corinthians 13. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Creator. She is survived by her sister Raquel; daughter Elena; her sons Francisco and Amado; her grandchildren Luis Bismarck, Amado Rafael, Elena Cristina, Raul Antonio, James David, Ana Maria, Frank Manuel, Cristine Marie; her great niece Raquel; her great grandchildren Elise Elena, Aline Jule, Ben Luis Erhart, James Julian, Amanda Pilar, and Christian Adrien. Her faith in God, integrity, humor, smile and light will always inspire us to be Joyful, Sing and Sow the Precious Seed of our Lord. A Memorial Service will be held at A.S. Turner Funeral Home, Decatur, Georgia at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday January 5 immediately followed by her internment at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
